Biography:
Medicinal chemist having more than 20 years of research experience at the interface of academia and industry. Formerly served as scientist at BRIC-IBSD Imphal, Manipur; Principal scientist at CSIR-NEIST Jorhat, Assam; Professor at IASST (DST), Guwahati, Assam. Having experienced in setting up of NABL accredited QAQC and drug testing laboratory for herbals and ASU drugs and raw materials. Education and Training: MSc in Chemistry (Organic), PhD in Total Synthesis of Bioactive Natural Products (CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Assam, India), Postdoc in Chemical Biology (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City, USA).
Research area:
•Natural products driven medicinal chemistry, Metabolic Dysfunction- Associated Diseases.
•Extraction, isolation and structure elucidation of pure molecules from natural sources by using different chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, qualitative and quantitative analysis of natural products by HPLC, preparation of enriched and standardized fraction based on marker compounds, as well as interpretation of NMR spectra (1H, 13C, HSQC, COSY, HMBC, NOESY etc), LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, FTIR for structure elucidation of small molecules.
• Work is focused on translational research towards the development of phytopharmaceuticals and ASU drug and/or lead molecules from ethno-medicinal plants for treatment of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Diseases with special emphasis on diabetes, MASH, WAT Browning (UCP1) and diabetic nephropathy (developing SGLT2 inhibitors) followed by study of underlying mechanism of action.
•Regulatory for herbals and phytopharmaceuticals: cGMP, QCQA and drug testing (Herbals & Phytopharmaceuticals).
Our group is working on preclinical evaluation of selected medicinal plants based on Indian Systems of Medicine (ISM) used for the treatment of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Diseases with an aimed for the development of phytopharmaceuticals and ASU drugs.
