We use preclinical models and human samples to evaluate the role of microbiota in disease mitigation
Our Mission
To improve human health by modulating the microbiota through innovative, integrative approaches that combine microbial ecology with targeted therapeutic interventions.
Who we are
Prabhat Upadhyay, M. Pharm, PhD (Pharmacology), is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at NIPER-A, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Govt of India.
The TML investigates the gut, skin, and oral microbiota, with a strong emphasis on ex vivo aerobic/anaerobic culture techniques using human and animal samples. We integrate advanced photomedicine and phytomedicine (phytopharmaceuticals) to develop innovative strategies for modulating microbial communities and their metabolites. The laboratory is actively engaged in interdisciplinary research spanning Alzheimer’s disease, metabolic disorders, maternal-fetal medicine, and chronic inflammatory conditions.
Key Areas of Interest
Microbiota (Gut/oral/vaginal/skin)
Photomedicine (Low-level light)
Phytomedicine (Phytopharmaceuticals)
Alzheimer’s disease
Metabolic disorders (Diabetes & Obesity)
Inflammation/ Osteoarthritis
By combining microbiology, pharmacology, photobiology, and translational medicine, we generate high-impact data that can move seamlessly from bench to bedside.
