I didn't plan to write this poem. I also didn't think I was ready to write it. We needed another act for Calliope's Poetry and Music Night, so I decided to scribble down some thoughts. Those thoughts turned into words and those words turned into me trying to puzzle out why I didn't feel like I was truly apart of my culture.

This piece was based on the idea of polarization of emotions. How emotions can create certain extremes within a person.
My whole life, I have been known as the "perfect child". Although this pressure has been instated by truly only myself, I feel like my expectations are much higher than they need to be. The point of this piece was to bend the rules by writing to an abstract source, as well as explaining who I truly am past the surface of my skin.
