The Participant in Research Experience Survey is an ongoing programme of listening to and learning from people who have taken part in research.
Staff supported by the NIHR are asked to provide the survey to research participants. The surveys are for people, including healthy volunteers, who are currently on an NIHR portfolio study (including commercial studies) and are at a point in the study where they feel they can give their views.
The results are then collated and made available online to help the network and study teams make improvements to research practice. Read about the results of the local survey for 2023/24.
Since 1 April 2019, the survey has been one of the NIHR’s seven priorities, or high level objectives, underlining the increasing focus on engaging with research participants to ensure they have a positive study experience. Read about how the survey benefits healthcare providers.
The Health Research Authority (HRA) has confirmed that PRES is not research and does not require NHS ethical approval before being conducted within health and social care settings. Read the NIHR’s guidance for trusts.
