Meet Our Experts

The NIHR Imaging Group is led by a Steering Committee, and has three operational Working Groups and two cross cutting workstreams.

Steering Group Chair:  Professor Stuart Taylor

Professor Stuart Taylor Professor of Medical imaging within the Centre for Medical Imaging at University College London and is an NIHR senior investigator.

Stuart’s research focuses on developing and translating imaging technologies for the benefit of patients in the NHS. He has a particular interest in the use of MRI and ultrasound in inflammatory bowel disease, and the diagnosis and staging of cancer using CT and MRI. As well as investigating diagnostic accuracy of imaging technology, Stuart's research also evaluates the impact of imaging on clinical decision making and patient experience and preferences. He collaborates widely across a range of disciplines, and with patients.

He is a faculty member of the UCLH NIHR BRC and has received grant income from the NIHR HTA, EME and i4i schemes and has led several multicentre trials of imaging technologies within the NHS. Professor Taylor sits on the NIHR EME funding committee.

Professor Vicky Goh was educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College and obtained her medical degree from the University of Cambridge. She trained in General Medicine and Radiology in London, completing a Fellowship in Cross-sectional Imaging at Toronto, Canada. Her MDRes (University of Cambridge) examined the role of Perfusion CT in colorectal cancer. She joined King's College London and Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals in 2011 as Chair of Clinical Cancer Imaging and Honorary Consultant Radiologist and leads the NIHR Imaging Workforce Delivery working group, a subgroup of the NIHR Imaging Group.

Vicky has served as Head of Department, Cancer Imaging, School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences since 2017. She is past president of the European Society of Oncologic Imaging, steering committee member of the European School of Radiology, active member of the European Society of Radiology, and is currently chairing the Academic Committee at the Royal College of Radiologists.

She has worked at UHS since 1998, joining after completing her NHS Clinical Scientist training at King’s College Hospital. Angela is also the CRN Wessex Local Imaging Champion and leads the NIHR Imaging Research Delivery Group, a subgroup of the NIHR Imaging Group.

She was awarded her PhD in advanced neuro MRI techniques from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton in 2010. Angela has extensive experience in encouraging and facilitating the use of MRI techniques to answer clinical research questions, working in collaboration with academics and clinical colleagues to do this. Her role includes supporting both the clinical MRI service (service development, QA and MRI safety), and working on research projects utilising MRI, both within the NHS and University of Southampton.
