Today I have participated in the genes and health study.
Research is very important for our community it really helps everyone get better healthcare.
For someone thinking about getting into research I would definitely say go for it its really helpful and it can only do us all good.
Alphas Ndhlovu (Research participant)
My name is Alphas Ndhlovu and I am here to take part in research project event.
Research is important in that we get an opportunity to share our own lived experiences every time I have taken part in research; I have realised that there is few people from ethnic minority taking part.
My passion is that I could get a lot more people from my community taking part.

I took part in the Listen Intervention research about Long Covid
I tested positive for Covid in October 2020, since then I have experienced Long Covid which has given me a variety of symptoms
Since having Long Covid I have seen various health professionals and the Long Covid Clinic
When I heard about the research, I was really interested in finding out more and how I could take part
I signed up to take part in January of this year and I have found it so beneficial
The benefits I have found from taking part
Having a weekly scheduled call booked in and knowing I could talk bout my symptoms, how I have been, what has been going well or not so well
Feeling listened to
Talking to someone who has an understanding of the illness, who is not being judgmental or making unhelpful comments
Being able to discuss and talk about my specific symptoms and how they impact me
Having a one to one support network that is not time constrained to one appointment/or only a few minutes
Consistency with the same person each week
Supporting with links to resources to help
Helping me feel more confident in managing my symptoms and how far I have come
It has been a couple months since I finished taking part in the research, I am managing my symptoms well and have some new found tools to support me that I picked up through the research. Taking part in the research has had a really positive impact on me
We asked our volunteers;
"What was positive about your experience?"
