The NIHR CRN maintains data to help coordinate and manage a national portfolio of clinical research. The NIHR CRN Integrated Research Intelligence System (IRIS) has four main components, one of which is the Open Data Platform (ODP) a business intelligence platform that displays NIHR data through a range of interactive dashboards. You can access the ODP here but you will to register first an account to access the platform.
The CRN developed a Research Targeting Tool to better understand geographical prevalence of disease in England, and how it relates to where studies are actually conducted by research teams.
The NIHR research targeting tool can provide important data to aid researchers in informing the development of research bids and projects, and help researchers and Local Authority staff identify and deliver research where it is needed most.
The tool can provide data through visual aids the will map and indicate the prevalence of specific diseases in England and its regional variation. Through using this research tool we can make better decisions as Local Authority Public Health Research Practitioners about how and where to address problems.
Through engaging and using this tool, research findings will better reflect the patients/populations who use the services - and that the benefits of research for patients and organisations are equitably spread.
