Since 1991, I have been a member of the art community. You will find me drawing every and anything, and I will do that anywhere. But it was when I pursued CSEC Visual Arts in 4th and 5th form at Wolmer's High School for Girls that I started to refine my craft. I continued into A'Level Art and studied Photo Editing using Adobe Photoshop and Digital Illustration using Macromedia Freehand. That journey has aided in my development as a designer and artist. Here are a few of the works that I have created.
My interest in photography naturally developed from working as an artist and graphic designer. However, I started to take it more seriously when I got a few (very very few) jobs as a photographer. I found that I have an eye to capture the weird, obscure and mundane things and make them look beautiful. I am more of a hobbyist than a professional photographer, but I wouldn't mess up your work if you commissioned me to work on your project.
Weirdly, I was asked to model for a photoshoot. I had no idea that I would love it so much! Check it out.
Here are a few works I have been involved with in various capacities, using animation and video production while displaying my acting skills.
This project was a labour of love, and I am proud to be a team member. As one of the production's executive directors, I assisted with hiring interns who worked on the project. My responsibilities included drafting the contracts, preparing the project management tool and following up on team members' assigned tasks. I also worked with Kevin Jackson on the Cre8 Abeeku and the maroons series, which gave insight into how we developed the animation. My marketing skills were also utilised in this project. I prepared the marketing plan for the production, gave insights on how the script could be updated, and added merchandising opportunities to the production. Lastly, I voiced the main character for the production, Abeeku.
This was a class project where I was tasked with conceptualizing and creating a 3D robot using Autodesk Maya. Though relatively simple, this robot was very challenging for me. My strength lies in 2D animation and rigging. Conceptualizing the robot was easy, but building him using Maya was challenging. Funnily enough, I found it easier to use Blender 3D. I have created a few more assets using Blender 3D, but this robot is an accomplishment, as I used something not in my comfort zone to create something recognisable. That's why I am more proud of this 3D work than any others I have created.
I was invited to shoot b-roll clips for the Race For Hope 5K Run at the Hope Zoo 2013. Videos from the lead videographer and myself were edited to produce the above video. My clips were mainly those coming from around a corner to view the runners, a pan from descriptions of the animals to footage of the animal or footage of the feet running. This was a challenging shoot as I ran with runners for the entire 5K, many times, I had to sprint ahead to set the camera to shoot the clip, all while in jeans.
The director of this live-action short is Alana Nelson, a graduate of the BFA Film Production programme at CARIMAC, UWI, Mona. She asked me to assist her with filling a role so that she could complete her production for her Film Directing course. This was my first time acting in a fictional story, and I loved the experience. I also had to take off my teacher hat and allow my former student to take control of her production and lead her team. It was a fulfilling experience, and I hope to do this again if asked.
I am very proud to present works from my students. They will tell you, I mommy them a lot. And in keeping with that persona, I also like to highlight my kids' accomplishments. It is not easy to be creative while under the pressure of school, and my students are producing amazing stuff. Take a look.
Here's a playlist of videos from my students from the Digital Media Production Programme at the UWI WJC, the ICT Bachelor Degree Programme at the VTDI, and those in the BFA Animation Programme at CARIMAC, UWI Mona.
