Water: Facts And figures
We started by learning some water facts and investigating our own use of water at home. We learned that our access to clean and usable water is a privilege not everybody in the world has. We also learned that water is a shared global resource, and a finite one.

Ryan's Well
We watched a documentary film about a young man named Ryan Hrlejac and his quest to bring clean water to Uganda. Through Ryan we learned about the “Power of One”; how one person can make a difference, and how even a young person can influence and motivate others to make a difference. We're inspired by Ryan's story and gratef that he is still engaged in the important work of bringing clean water and sanitation education to developing countries.
In our classroom we have been passing around several copies of this book. The girls are mesmerized by the larger story behind Ryan and Jimmy's friendship. Ryan and Jimmy's friendship started out as a pen pal exchange between Ryan, in Canada, and Jimmy, in Uganda, while Ryan's well was being constructed. They ended up as brothers...
