Library Statement of Purpose
The Nightingale-Bamford School Library is a welcoming space dedicated to the reading and information needs and interests of the students, faculty, and staff of the Nightingale-Bamford School. The library supports the school’s curriculum through a collection of print books, ebooks, and digital resources. Librarians partner with teachers across subjects to integrate library resources and help students develop information literacy and research skills. The library empowers students to become lifelong readers as well as efficient and ethical users of information, and supports the Nightingale-Bamford School’s overall mission.
About the Curriculum
The Library Program at Nightingale is a comprehensive, scaffolded, skills-based curriculum supporting our enthusiastic readers and savvy information seekers. Our two libraries align with divisional curriculum, cultivating reading, research skills, and creative and critical thinking from K-XII. The libraries inspire imagination and wonder, instilling students with a love of reading and passion for inquiry. Students complete increasingly complex research projects using our robust collection of print and digital resources. Our collection and curriculum celebrate diversity, cultural awareness, and global citizenship. The library program nurtures intellectual curiosity, deep and critical thinking, and the joy of learning.
DEI In the Libraries
Nightingale’s libraries and librarians provide spaces and resources that aim to support and represent all members of our community. We uphold Nightingale’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and maintain libraries where all Nightingale community members have the opportunity to see themselves and be seen by others. Our collection is curated to provide a wide range of perspectives and voices to deepen the experience of teaching, learning, and joyful seeking of information. All librarians welcome feedback and further conversation to support the building of libraries that achieve these goals.
Library Hours
The Library is open every day from 8-4 unless otherwise noted by the librarians or if there is an event taking place in the library. Reach out to Ms. Fernandez, Ms. Chesterman, or Ms. Madaus to set up an appointment for help with research, or just drop in and ask us anything!
