Project initiated with the student community
International center of Indian craft organised a jewellery workshop with the students of NID Gandhinagar campus where 35 students from all the 7discipline came together to explore wax as a material and understand the possibility of investment casting and jewellery making hands-on workshop for two days on 6th and 7 th April 2023 .The workshop was lead by Dr Sandra Wilson(University of Dundee /scholar of Design & craft/co-investigator )a partner to EPSRC project
GP Students: Adwait Bhale Mdes Lifestyle Accessory Design,2020 batch, NID Gandhinagar, has been offered a Graduation project funded by the EPSRC in collaboration with the International Office NID and the international centre for Indian Craft.
Project initiative and progress
the Research project: “Chemical recycling of electronic waste for sustainable livelihoods and material consumption in India - A research project Tackling global development challenges through physical science” funded by EPSRC (www.epsrc.ac.uk). The project is investigated by the team: Project lead by Prof.Jason love (University Edinburgh /scholar of chemistry/principal investigator), co investigate by Dr Carole Morrison(University Edinburgh /scholar of chemistry/co-investigator), Dr Sandra Wilson(University of Dundee /scholar of Design & craft/co-investigator ), Prof Kamalesh Singh (IIT BHU, Varanasi /Metallurgy /co-investigator ), Prof Amresh Panigrahi (National Institute of Design /Design /co-investigator).6 monthly meetings were organised to update about the project progress and field visit report were presented.

Mr Amresh Panigrahi, Faculty of National NID Gandhinagar a Key Investigator for the EPSRC, UK-India funded project, has been invited as a Keynote Speaker to present his views on "Urban mining to precious object: an opportunity for Design to contextualize Sustainable development - Indian's Case study" at the "MetWaste 2023" conference. The conference, titled "Management and Recycling of Metallurgical Wastes", was held at the esteemed IIT(BHU),Varanasi, INDIA on 27-28 February 2023.The event saw the participation of eminent speakers from various countries, who deliberated on the challenges and opportunities associated with Metallurgical Wastes. As the Head of the International Centre Indian Craft, ICIC, NID Ahmedabad, and the Course Lead Dept of Lifestyle Accessory Design, Mr. Panigrahi's presence added great value to the conference. His talk shed light on the potential of urban mining to convert waste into precious objects, and how design can play a pivotal role in contextualizing sustainable development, with the Indian case study serving as a prime example.

Dr Sandra Wilson(University of Dundee /scholar of Design & craft/co-investigator ) presented her research findings at The conference, titled "Management and Recycling of Metallurgical Wastes", which was held at the esteemed IIT(BHU),Varanasi, INDIA on 27-28 February 2023.and co-conducted a craft workshop in IIT BHU.Dr Sandra Wilson has shared her experience in NID Gandhinagar campus about the research finding to the NID Gandhinagar student community.

Mr Amresh Panigrahi, Head of the international centre Indian craft, ICIC, NID Ahmedabad, was invited to talk to students from Toy and Game Design and Lifestyle Accessory Design NID Gandhinagar on “system analysis of Indian Craft - challenges and Opportunity” to make students aware of Challenges and opportunity of the craft sector and role of design as part of their craft documentation orientation program.

ICIC started promoting the Craft activity of NID on an online platform for public viewing: The initiative was taken under ICIC to collaborate with the different NID departments and promote the craft activity and research in a public platform to encourage students, mentors, and craft enthusiasts.

“ Blossoming with craft significance ” A system design experimentation with 15 Mdes students of Lifestyle accessory design 2019 initiated to understand the service design opportunity and solution in the craft sector of India. The Academic project aims to invite faculty colleagues to share their knowledge with NID students. Students are working under the guidance of Mr Amresh Panigrahi, Associate Senior Faculty, LAD.

Crafting new Social Economies: an online roundtable exploring how we can craft new social economies and mobilize creative action in an age of emergency. This event, promoted by the DESIS Network and the UAL “Carnival of Crisis” , a significant move by Desis for the centre of the discussion and its political sense, was organized in parallel to the COP26 UN Climate Summit. ICIC Priority area for graduation project: Craft design research suggested a priority theme project (Six themes) to encourage the NID students to be keen for a self-sponsored graduation project or apply for a funded project independently. The briefs are written and shared with students for reference.
ICIC Priority area for Craft documentation project:ICIC studied the Craft documentation subject undertaken by NID students(both Bdes and Mdes) in various departments in NID. ICIC analysed the data shared by KMC over the past 30 years. The synthesis report published on the ICIC website for public viewing. It is shared with the department, students, and Faculty before considering their field visit to decide their priority research areas.

“ Beyond matter ” A system design experimentation with 16 Mdes students of Lifestyle accessory design 2018 initiated to understand the service design opportunity and solution in the Indian craft sector. The Academic Project aims to invite faculty colleagues to share their knowledge with NID students. Students are working under Mr Amresh Panigrahi, Associate Senior Faculty, LAD in NID Gandhinagar.

ICIC Initiated Draft for MOU partner with Indian national trust for art and culture Heritage, New Delhi (Intach):
The initiative was taken under ICIC to collaborate with INTAC with the help of NID Delhi centre to promote the craft activity and research after two months of conversation; the MOU did not take up considering the fund viability.
