La Société Honoraire de Français is a national organization whose aim is to stimulate the interest in the study of French, to promote higher standards of scholarship, to reward high scholastic achievement, and to create enthusiasm for an understanding of francophone cultures across the world.
Membership is based on scholarship in general and scholarship in French in particular. Candidates for membership must be juniors or seniors enrolled in at least their 3rd year of French. In addition, inductees must have maintained a B- or higher average in all their subjects but an A- average in French, based on semester grades.
La Société Honoraire de Français focuses on Leadership & Service to French communities both near and far. Members of the organization commit to volunteering a total of 40 hours throughout the course of their membership. Past service projects include tutoring peers, planning and organizing French Club meetings and activities, serving meals at a shelter, organizing fundraisers to help rebuild classrooms at a school in Benin, writing letters to children in an orphanage in Haiti, designing and selling stickers to benefit an Environmental non-profit organization in France, making no-sew blankets for a refugee camp in the North of France, making and designing holidays cards to benefit Doctors Without Borders, volunteering at cultural events with the Alliance Française de Milwaukee (Le Cercle d'Or, Bastille Days, etc.), volunteering at the Milwaukee French Immersion School among other fantastic projects.
