Northeast Iowa Community College joined the HLC Assessment Academy cohort in 2016. During the initial meeting, the group developed an overarching theme, Celebrating Learning and Student Success (C.L.A.S.S.), as the College's primary project.
Fully developing Common Learning Outcomes (CLOs) with systematic, repeatable processes that promote analysis and change.
Collecting, using, and promoting data as a tool for change and continuous improvements.
Creating a system for personal and professional growth for the College to promote a better understanding of learning and every college employee's role in that process.
You may volunteer to be a part of the C.L.A.S.S. Team.
A Dean or C.L.A.S.S. Team member may ask you to participate.

Co-curricular activities are activities that contribute to a student’s academic learning experience offered outside of regular class time. Co-curricular learning activities, programs, and experiences reinforce the institution’s mission and values and complement the formal curriculum. Co-curricular activities are optional learning opportunities, promoted by faculty, that are aligned with a learner’s program of study.
Faculty will assess co-curricular learning in alignment with program or discipline evaluation. Each co-curricular activity must be tied to either a PLO (program learning outcome), CLO (common learning outcome), or ELO (education learning outcome). Each program or discipline will collect and analyze their own co-curricular data, results, and determine areas of improvement.

In collaboration with the Data Evaluation Team and backed by administrative support to fulfill its mandate, the CLO Committee will be structured into several sub-committees. These sub-committees include Critical Thinking, Effective Communication, Lifelong Learning, and Diversity.
The chief goal of these entities is to encourage an enduring advancement of pedagogical methodologies and learning by initiating the recognition of and assessment metrics for each of the Common Learning Outcomes in all offered courses. Subsequently, the CLO sub-committees will maintain oversight of the assessment procedures, collate the results, and disseminate this information to all stakeholders of the College.
