Trans-Scale Biology Center, NIBB

About Us

The phenomena exhibited by living organisms appear as the sum of complex networks at every scale, from genes to populations, and therefore, a trans-scale analysis is necessary to understand the essential nature of biological systems.

However, conventional analysis, which relies solely on human intelligence to integrate diverse data across multiple levels of spatiotemporal scales has limitations.

National Institute for Basic  Biology (NIBB) is promoting “Trans-Scale Biology”.  And we challenge ourselves to expand our understanding of biological systems by integrating vast amounts of data, such as trans-omics and bioimaging, across multiple scales, through the introduction of AI analysis. In the Trans-Scale Biology Center, six facilities collaborate with each other, and trans-scale biology research inside and outside the Institute is strengthened under the coordination of the Promotion Office.

The Promotion Office provides support to researchers conducting collaborative research at the National Institute for Basic Biology (NIBB).

In collaboration with the Center’s facilities, the Office promotes Trans-Scale Biology research by coordinating the use of highly specialized equipment and analytical support. In addition, the Center plans and implements events such as workshops and symposia to build a research community leading to Trans-Scale Biology, and training courses for technology dissemination by the Center’s facilities.
