ATHLETICS FAQ

Where do I find information about the athletic program?
Most of the information will be on the Logan Athletics website.  https://sites.google.com/nhusd.k12.ca.us/loganathletics/home

What do I need to do to join a team?
Contact the coach directly and find out when the preseason meetings are, when season will start, when try out dates are, and there are any open gym, open field, open room, etc.

What do I need to do in order to try out or practice?
Once you’ve contacted the coach, you need to get a physical from your doctor or the health center at Logan. Your parents will also need to register you onto FamilyID and upload the current physical (all of the pages) onto FamilyID

Can I practice if I don’t have a physical but I am registered on FamilyID?
No - you may not practice or tryout. The same goes if you have a physical but not registered on FamilyID

When can I register my son/daughter on FamilyID?
FamilyID registration usually opens up at the end of June for the Fall Sports, in October for the winter sports, and in December for the spring sports.

The easiest way to explain this is if you have a 2.0 GPA or higher and no more than one F, you will be eligible. If your grade is below a 2.0 or have 2 or more F’s, refer to this page for your eligibility status https://sites.google.com/nhusd.k12.ca.us/loganathletics/eligibility

How long are the sports seasons generally?
Typically about 3 months but it may go longer if the team goes into the postseason competition

What if I want to go out or try out for another sport in the next season but the try-out dates are during practice?
You will need to let that coach of the sport your trying out that you are currently playing a sport and will go out after the season is over. Don’t just quit or miss practice to try out for the new sport.

What is Athletic PE and how do I get to be in the class?
Athletic PE is the last period of the day where a team does conditioning and training/practice year round for that particular sport. Most of the returning athletes are usually put in Athletic PE. If you are a 9th grader, the coach usually makes a recommendation to put you in. The coach may have seen you play or train in summer camps.  If the coach doesn’t know about you, you will need to contact them if you want to add to their class.

What sports have athletic PE?
Cross country, Tennis (b/g), water polo (b/g) Football, Girls basketball, Soccer (b/g),Wrestling (b/g), Baseball, Softball, Swimming (b/g) Track & Field

Do I automatically make the team if I'm in Athletic PE?
Not necessarily. For teams that do not cut players, you will be on a team but it is up to the coach what level you will be in (Var, JV, etc). For teams that have a try out (ie. baseball, girls basketball, softball), you still will need to try out to make the team.

Do I need to be in athletic PE to be on a team?
No you do not. Most 9th graders do not have Athletic PE as most freshman practices are after school.

What happens if I don’t make the team or quit for some reason, do I stay in athletic PE?
You will need to stay in the class until your schedule is changed. In some cases, schedule changes do not happen until the semester. You will need to talk to your coach/teacher on what you should do.

How long are the practices?
The practices vary per sport but generally about 2 - 2 1/2 hours.

Who do I contact for summer sports camp information?
Contact the coach of that sport directly to see if that sport will be offering a sports camp for the summer.

What if I am sick, injured or have to miss a practice, what do I do?
You will need to contact your coach, each team has a different set of rules for athletes being ill or injured.

Who do I talk to if I need my schedule changed?
Go see your counselor in the Counseling Center.
