What is ASB? California law allows students in California’s public schools to raise money and make decisions about how they will spend this money. Student organizations established to raise and spend money on behalf of students are called Associated Student Body organizations, or ASB. ASB must be made up of current students and be located at the school where the funds are maintained. The funds raised and spent by student organizations are called associated student body funds or ASB funds. ASB also oversees all student led programs such as clubs and organizations on campus, which include the events they hold.
What is the Student Council? In middle, junior high and high schools, as well as community colleges, a student council (often called a general student council or leadership class) must oversee all of the student clubs in the school. The student council represents the students and has primary authority over student funds, with guidance from, and adherence to, district policy. All Student Council Meetings follow Robert's Rules of Order.
ALL Clubs are sanctioned under ASB and shall adhere to the Constitution and Bylaws. Article VI of the JLHS ASB Constitution describes all that is needed to know about Clubs and Student Programs here at Logan. if you have any more questions, please reach out to the current serving Club Commissioners.
Reminder:
If any Club or Student Organization on campus wishes to host an event, per the JLHS ASB Constitution Article VI, Section V;
"Each club and/or student program must notify and gain approval from the ASB Council and Administration Cabinet of any school-wide activity that involves students other than club/student program members at least thirty (30) days prior to the activity. All notification and approval is just to confirm that the activity will not interfere with anything else on campus."
Event Proposals can be sent to the ASB President, Secretary, or Board Representative. If you event has monetary items involved, please attach a Fundraiser Approval Form, which can be picked up from the school accountants desk.
