On August 16, we invited Clara Chen and Mr. Lin to show us what we can do to make a better world. Ms. Chen first led us to watch an online exhibition tour made by One Forty. It showcases a great variety of stories of these international workers. They write, they design clothes, and they love the island so much that they pull up their sleeves to clean the beach. Besides, she shared her experience of advocating her students to collect clothes, shoes and other supplies to Lin. It truly amazed and inspired us to maintain the tradition this year.

Spreading Happiness
Quote
By providing them books, I got to know their stories.
As long as you don't reach the point of self-destruction, it's worth beyond the limits and do something.
I used to envy their fancy cars, good outfits. And now I look like the leader of a beggar's gang.
I feel that my happiness has been so full to, eat anything good wear anything good.
My biggest worry is that I am the only one who is enjoying this huge happiness.
What is Casa De Socrates Cafe Van?
Mr. Lin traveled to many countries in Southeast Asia in person in order to collect all sorts of books in the migrant workers' native languages. Later, he drove the van here and there, offering these people books that may remind them of their homeland.
Karaoke party by the truck!
Chun Lin's introducing the book from Philippines.
In addition to books, the truck also provides a variety of Southeast Asia snacks that soothe their nostalgia. Whats's more, a Karaoke system is also equipped in the van and invites these migrants sing to their heart's content.
This is a magic pink van that delivers entertainment, self-identity and, most important of all, real connection.
You can't read, but someone can.
So my books are for those who know the language. Chun Lin
Besides giving out books for free, Mr. Lin also offers other help. In winter, Lin collects supplies sent from every corner of Taiwan and distribute to the migrant workers, especially the fishermen who usually work under poorer conditions. For them, due to their work type, clothing, pants and footwear are easily worn out, so by providing them these daily necessities for free, they can save a great amount of money.

Sometimes these workers take nothing but a doll to cuddle like a baby in their arms. " It makes me wanna cry every time I see them act like that. Because it reminds me that it's all because they don't have childhoods!" said Lin. "Sometimes when they are trying new shoes, they are so excited that they even forget they haven't untied the shoelaces yet. When I tell them they will just give a wry smile and say 'Yeah I know.'" To them, the excitement and the feeling of being loved prevails at that moment.

"Everyone thinks I'm doing great things, but I don't think so. I'm just doing what I'm used to, " he said. I'm curious why Mr. Lin thinks so. Later from his talk, I found that the migrant workers are like friends to him. From the usual greetings you can see their firm friendship and true connection. Lin cares about the people around him, helps others as a daily routine, and brings faith and kindness to their life.

It never occurred to me that clothes are so precious to migrant workers. In the cold winter, migrant workers may not have enough clothes to stay warm, and may walk unprotected on the road full of rubbles. With a little love, we can let them have someone to rely on. I think we sometimes are blind to the blessings in our life, and fail to cherish what we have. I'm very happy that we can have people like Mr. Lin in Taiwan, who quietly spread love and warmth to every place. I hope that we will be contented and grateful in the future.

I was most impressed by the exhibition that Miss Chen showed us, because the exhibition not only introduced us an organization, but also saw a lot of stories about migrant workers. I finally know some of their dreams, and really get to know them further.

After listening to the talk, I was totally impressed by Mr. Lin 's story about facing frustration. Originally the residents did not accept what he did, but with tireless efforts, the residents began to slowly accept and even appreciate him. I feel very moved. I remind myself that as long as I do not give up, everything will pay off one day.

I think what impressed me most was that the way Mr. Lin treated the migrant workers: it was just like the way we treated our friends, and there seemed to be no barrier at all. Because even with good intentions, it's inevitable that sometimes we may seem condescending when we are trying to get closer to others. However, Mr. Lin treats them with sincerity and true kindness.

In the talk, I was amazed at Lin's determination. He said that doing one thing as a daily routine is more meaningful than the sudden overflow of passion. This is the first time I've heard the concept, which is mind-blowing to me. So I think him super cool.

What impressed me the most was that when Mr. Lin finished his introduction and told his story, he said what he had gained through all these. He said that the greatest harvest lies in his own heart. I think in our life, we may encounter many setbacks, and we often do not know what to do. However, we don't need to know how to do it, just continue to do it until they prove that they did the right thing. In the future, I will also be more grateful in doing everything and try my best to help those who need help. Finally, I hope as a person who love the beach so much, I can visit Mr. Lin's book van one day, and then go snorkeling in Aoti Village.

What impressed me the most was that Mr. Lin shared what he had gone through when he first arrived at Aoti Village. For instance, he couldn't find the dormitory for the migrant workers and no one told him. He thought the residents there were unfriendly at all. Yet, it turned out that there was no dorm at all. He said, "Sometimes Our frustrations are due to our own confinement, but after breaking through the self-limit, we can have a broader world." When things don't work out, all we have to do is to keep doing it, and it will work some day. The above-mentioned words made me realize that we should always try new things and that everyone learns from the basics and as long as we keep moving forward, we will improve day by day.

What impressed me the most in the talk is Mr. Lin's mindset. He said that even if there is only one person borrowing a book from him, as long as that person really needs this book, he thought it sufficed. I don't think it's easy to hold that idea and keep that amount of enthusiasm going all the time. Also, I'm impressed by his beach-cleaning efforts. After today's talk, some of my good friends and I made up our mind to go beach-cleaning in the future. As Mr. Lin said, we can do good things for the environment, even if it's just a tiny act. Any move will do.
