FRC Team 6324
The Blue Devils
After nearly 20 years Salem High School is diving back into the world of the FIRST Robotics Competition! Starting back in September of 2016, we began to rebuild a once loved, but forgotten program here at Salem High School. Since then we've been hard at work developing not only our skills as robotics engineers and preparing for the upcoming 2018 FRC game, FIRST POWER UP, we've been building our program, developing other youth robotics programs within our district, and creating community partnerships that will aide us in our goals for the future.
RiverRage 21 Offseason Results
As a final goodbye to FIRST Steamworks, we attended RiverRage and competed with 32 other teams. We had a great time getting back into competition spirit, as well as introducing new team members to how FIRST events run. We placed 5th after 4 qualification matches and went on to be the alliance captain with teams 4909, Bionics, and 5813, Morpheus, who was substituted by 6328, Mechanical Advantage when their robot stopped working unexpectedly. Unfortunately, we did not make it out of quarterfinals, but we are still thrilled with the outcome of the event. We may attend another offseason event, but we aren't certain yet. Stay posted for more details.
What is FIRST?
FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen with the goal of encouraging young people to pursue careers in STEM fields. The first competition to be held was the FIRST Robotics Competition in 1992 in a small gym in New Hampshire; since then the program has grown to include millions of participants from over 30 countries across four levels of competition. For more information about the program, or if you would like to start a team, please visit their website here.
