This semester course is designed to introduce you to the subject of Family & Consumer Science.
To begin, we will discuss and do various activities to promote positive self concept, character and relationships. We will discuss the importance of working cooperatively with others, as a team, to achieve certain goals. From there we will focus on the safety rules to follow when working in the kitchen. A mastery score of 90% or higher must be achieved on the “Kitchen Safety Test” before a student is allowed to work in the cooking lab. This class will then focus on learning kitchen basics such as dishwashing procedures, names and uses of common kitchen utensils, and proper techniques to follow when measuring ingredients in a recipe. We will prepare a variety of snacks in the kitchen lab during our study on working in the kitchen. During this class you will also learn how to operate the sewing machine and make a simple pillow.
