NIOS is one of three National Boards and the only board looking after school education through open and distant education. It directly comes under the ministry of human resource development, government of India. NIOS is an autonomous institution which envisages an entire range of schooling from primary to senior secondary level through open education system. time and attention to sports or some performing arts.

3. How is NIOS different from other Boards?

Besides, the curriculum/syllabus of secondary or senior secondary education at NIOS is almost similar

to CBSE, ICSE or other prevailing boards in India. Like other school boards, it is also recognised by the

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

NIOS just provides a route for completing education to those who have not been able to complete it

4.When does NIOS conduct the Public Examinations?

Ans.

NIOS conducts the Public Examinations twice in a year

First in the months of April-May

Second in the months October-November

However, candidates are also eligible to appear through On Demand Examination at secondary level and

senior secondary level in those subjects only in which they have admission in NIOS.

5. What is the value of NIOS Board for the entrance level exams like IIT JEE, PMT?

Ans.

NIOS is recognised by the government of India which makes the certification through this board valid

throughout India for registering to any competitive exam that students take after clearing their 12th.

6. What are the exceptional provisions offered to the differently abled persons during examinations?

Ans.

Provisions offered to differently abled persons during examinations are as follows:

Provision of an Amanuensis (writer).

Maximum one hour additional to visually impaired or differently abled persons.

Relaxations for candidates suffering from sudden illness/accident.

Separate sitting arrangement.

The relaxations are available in theory examination only, and not in practicals.

7. How can a differently abled person apply for relaxation/provision in exam?

Ans.

The differently abled person can apply by a written request to the concerned Regional Centre along with

Medical certificate indicating the nature and extent of disability from a Govt. hospital.
