The therapist and the child engage in a confidential relationship. The therapist's goal is to protect the physical and emotional well being of the client. The legal guardian must give the therapist specific permission on exchanging any information with the school or any other community providers.
There are certain situations where confidentiality may have to be broken and action taken. Mental Health Professionals are required by law to report any situation where a client reports being hurt, or going to hurt themselves or harm someone else.
