How do I know if my child may benefit from School Based Mental Health?
Many children will exhibit signs that they are struggling with a mental health problem. These signs may be expressed with different behaviors or emotional difficulties.
Some concerns to look out for:
hyperactivity over what other children tend to have
difficulty separating from a parent
reports of behavior disruptions at school, home or other settings such as excessive disobedience, aggression and temper tantrums
excessive fears or worries
changes in school performance
loss of interest in social/family interactions or previously enjoyed activities
difficulty concentrating
sleep disruptions
more episodes of sadness and/or irritability
exposure to violence or some trauma
changes in living situation that may be stressful to the child
changes in appetite or sleep
talk about death or threatening to harm self or others.
frequent complaints of feeling sick
withdrawal from family or friends
