Spanish I provides an introduction to the study of the Spanish language and the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Emphasis is placed on the development of interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students develop foundational vocabulary and language structures that enable them to communicate about familiar topics such as personal information, family, school, daily routines, food, clothing, and the community. Learners engage in meaningful, real-life situations and interpret authentic and adapted texts, audio, and visual materials to build comprehension and cultural awareness. The course emphasizes communication, cultural connections, and the application of Spanish in practical contexts while developing students’ confidence and ability to communicate at the Novice level of proficiency.
