Teaching Approach
My teaching focuses on helping students understand how to think through academic tasks rather than simply finding the right answer. I design lessons that build knowledge, strengthen foundational skills, and help students learn how to explain their reasoning. This approach supports both reading comprehension and mathematical problem-solving.
Instructional Interests
I am particularly interested in how assessment and instructional design can reveal student thinking. Analyzing patterns in student responses helps guide instruction and supports the development of stronger comprehension strategies. I enjoy designing learning tasks that help students connect background knowledge with careful reading of the text. I am a phonics wizard who enjoys noticing small instructional insights like this that make complex skills easier for students to understand. (Who can tell us why the er in errand spells /air/?)
