Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year. Please read the following carefully, so we can make sure that we are on the same page pertaining to information about our classroom.
Attendance
Your child is to be on time for school each day. Students that are not in the classroom by 7:40 am will be counted tardy. If they are absent, a note needs to be put in their communication binder on the returning day to let us know why they were out. If one is not written within two days of the absence, it will be considered unexcused.
Transportation/Change of Information
If your childs afternoon transportation is changing for the day, we must have a note, either written or emailed, in order for us to make the change. If you have unforeseen transportation change, please call the office no later than 1:30 notifying them of the change at 910- 790-5067. Please notify me immediately of any changes in your address or phone numbers. It is very important that we can contact you in case of an emergency.
Snacks
We will eat a small snack every day. Please send in a healthy snack with a water bottle each day. We will only have about 5-10 minutes to eat, so please send something that can be eaten quickly and with little mess. Some suggestions include goldfish, nutri-grain bar, pretzels, animal crackers, raisins, grapes, etc.
Communication Binders
Communication binders will go home daily when students come into the classroom. Please make sure you look over and sign them each night in the space provided. Students left over work/graded assignments will also be found in this binder. Please make sure you look over mistakes your child have made and complete any unfinished work that may be in them as well. Also included in this binder, will be notes regarding your childs day. This binder is extremely important in staying involved in your childs day. We want to ensure that your child has the best kindergarten experience.
Classroom Rules
We will have specific procedures for every aspect of the day. At the beginning of the school year, we carefully teach expectations, routines, and procedures. We will spend a lot of time modeling appropriate behavior, role playing social situations, and helping the class understand the class rules which include:
1. Follow directions quickly
2. Raise your hand for permission to speak
3. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat
4. Make smart choices
5. Keep your dear teacher happy
Please work with me and let your child know the expected behavior at school. We also follow Murrayville’s Elementary School Wide Expectations to set SAIL. S- Show Respect, A- Accountable for our actions, I- In Control, and L- Lead with Kindness.
Rewards
Our classroom will have many rewards for positive behavior whether it is individually or a whole class. This will include verbal praise, positive notes/emails, special privileges, stickers, treasure box, extra recess, etc. Throughout the day, students will have a chance to earn pretend money, once they reach 10 dollars they will be able to go to our class treasure box or have a special incentive for the day. (Any donations to our treasure box is GREATLY appreciated.)
Birthdays
Birthdays are exciting events for children this age. If you would like to send in a treat for your childs birthday, please send it so it can be passed out at the end of the day as to not disrupt instructional time. Please let me know beforehand if you are bringing in any goodies. Please also remember that there is a possibility that we have children with food allergies so we ask that the treats be something that all students can eat. Since our time is limited, please try to bring treats that are already divided evenly and easy to pass out (such as cupcakes, cookies, doughnuts, etc). All items MUST be store bought.
Money
It would be very helpful to send any money in a labeled envelope with your childs name and the purpose of which it is intended written on the outside of the envelope and placed inside their communication binder in their pencil pouch.
Special Classes
Our special classes are from 11:05-11:50 each day. At Murrayville, we go on a rotation schedule for specials. A schedule showing what day your child will have each special will be located on the back cover of their communication binder. Please leave it in there for the entire month. Our specials include PE, Library, Music, and Art. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes the days that we have PE.
