Course Description:
Health/PE fulfills the NC State graduation requirement of ½ credit in Physical Education and ½ credit in Health Education. Our PE/Health Department aligns the class curriculum with the North Carolina Core Curriculum and Essential Standards.
The course provides a diversified program of activities, sports, fitness and classroom instruction. We are committed to providing a safe environment for our students.
General Class Requirements:
Students will:
Follow all NHCS and HHS policies regarding attendance, tardiness, electronics, bullying, language and personal behavior. The discipline policy outlined in the HHS student handbook will be followed.
Students will wear athletic clothing every day including sneakers, shorts, t-shirts, sweats or tracksuits. No tank tops, dresses, skirts or other apparel deemed inappropriate.
Proper footwear is also required (athletic shoes and socks). No flip flops, sandals or boots allowed.
Students are expected to participate in all class activities; physical & academic, fitness & sports. Lack of participation will be reflected in the student’s grade. Students must stay with their class within the designated area(s) and may not leave without permission and/or appropriate pass.
NO CELL PHONES ARE ALLOWED IN PE CLASS. They must be kept locked up in the locker room.
Daily Class Procedure:
Line-up in teacher area for attendance when tardy bell rings.
Move to locker room for “dressing out”
All personal items (book bags, etc.) will be locked in locker room area. Please purchase a lock to secure your belongings in the locker rooms.
Move to assigned activity area for warm-up and class activity.
Approximately ten (10) minutes prior to the end of class we will “change out” and prepare for the next class.
Grading:
PE GRADE- Ten (10) points a day for completing the warm-up and the daily activity. Five (5) days will be grouped to give a “weekly” grade of 50 points for PE.
HEALTH GRADE - Ten (10) points a day for completing the daily activity/assignment. Five (5) days will be grouped to give a “weekly” grade of 50 points for Health.
FINAL EXAM: Complete a timed one (1) mile test and take a written test based on all class work.
REMINDER: Your final class grade is 40%-1st nine week grade, 40%-2nd nine week grade, 20%-Final Exam Grade
Absences/Additional assignments:
Absences and medical exemptions from physical activity will require the student to complete a written assignment to receive credit for the missed day.
Work must be completed within the allotted time to receive credit.
