Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones are only allowed to be out in my class under special circumstances (ie, explicit permission from the teacher). If I see a cell phone, I will ask you once to put your phone away. After that, each time I see the phone, I will take a tally and I will report the number of times you were asked to put it away to a parent or guardian by the end of the day. If the phone becomes a point of further disruption in the classroom, I will ask you to put your phone in one of the phone pockets at the front of the room, where you will be able to retrieve it after class.

I do offer the pockets at the front of the room as a sort of phone charging station/parking space for the duration of class. If you don't think you can control your phone use, put your phone there!

Late Work Policy

Starting Spring 2023, the late work policy has been updated. Work is expected to be turned in on time to prevent students from falling behind both in content and grades in my class. As such, if a student misses an assignment for any reason, they have up to five school days to turn in the assignment for 20% off their grade. (For example, if you were going to make 100% on an assignment, your highest possible score would be 80%.) If a student is absent from class because they are sick, they have five days to turn in the work, but will not be penalized any percentage of the grade. After five school days, the assignment will be closed and the student cannot turn it in.

Homework that is supposed to be in your Focus 9/Focus 10 notebook will receive a "HW OK" or "HW LATE" stamp, depending. Every "HW LATE" stamp will lose points on the notebook grade for that quarter.
