Students and parents, welcome to Course Registration for the 2024-2025 school year! 

Below you will find information JTH course requests for next school year. These are only requests, your schedule will not be built until July. It will then be reviewed for accuracy over the summer before becoming available during the early part of August.

Counselors will begin spring meetings on Feb 26th during second period. You will have an opportunity to discuss courses for next year and make your course selections. There is no "first come, first served” when it comes to registration. All class selections will be processed at the same time later this semester. Counselors will meet with all students in the cafeteria during their assigned 2nd period class between February 26th until March 28th. (Please be patient as all students will be seen.) You can view this schedule to know when your class is scheduled to come down. If you do not have a 2nd block class or you are absent the day of your meeting, your counselor will call for you at a later time between February 26th and April 19th. Please do not email your counselor to schedule a separate meeting.

Please follow the steps below to prepare for registration ahead of time and to streamline your counselor appointment:

Step 1: Watch the entire Registration Video. This is a new video with up to date information about course options.

Step 2: Discuss and research course options with your parents/guardian at home. You may want to use the Curriculum Course Guide along with the registration video above as resources.

Step 3: Complete the Registration Form at home with your parent/guardian. STUDENTS ARE NOT ENTERING THEIR REQUESTS INTO POWERSCHOOL. PLEASE keep this sheet in a safe spot so you have it when you meet with your counselor. You MUST complete the course selection sheet before meeting with us.

Step 4: You will need to WAIT to meet with your counselor. These meetings will take place in the cafeteria with your second block class from February 26th-March 28th. During your meeting, we will discuss your selections, make any necessary changes, and answer any questions.

Reminders:  

• Once you speak to a counselor regarding your course requests, please do not email us to make any changes.

• All students must choose 8 courses and 4 DIFFERENT alternates. (These can be a combination of Hoggard/ NCVPS/ dual enrollment courses if you qualify.)

• If you plan to take an NCVPS course, understand that the counselor cannot put this course in PowerSchool. Please select a similar option for the time being. A counselor will get that information from you during your registration meeting.

  • NCVPS courses are challenging and require you to be very organized and have good time management skills. You would be expected to log in to this course each day for at least 90 minutes and be a good independent learner.

  • Summer School Options- You are allowed to take one class through NCVPS in the summer: this class is only 5 weeks long vs. 16 weeks so you will be spending about 2-3 hours a day on this course.

  • You CANNOT take a class online if we teach it here at Hoggard. (Ex. Civic Literacy, or English 2.)

For dual enrollment courses at CFCC or UNCW this Summer or next Fall, we cannot put these courses in PowerSchool. Please select similar courses or back up options just in case something does not work out with dual enrollment. • Seniors must take a minimum of 3 courses per semester (or more if needing additional credits for graduation/ applying to selective or competitive 4 year colleges/  high school athletic eligibility).

  • High school senior athletes must earn 3 credits in the Fall of 2024 and have a minimum semester GPA of 2.0.

• If you want to sign up for a class that requires an audition/ application, you cannot select those now. Choose a course you can take and we will switch those once the approval comes through. Examples: Journalism, Voyagers, Adv. Dance/Theatre.  

In closing, this is a process so please utilize all the resources we have provided above. Pick your classes to the best of your ability with assistance from your parent/guardian, then a counselor can answer any questions during your meeting. JTH Counselors have 1700 meetings in 20 school days, so please be patient, we will get to you all by April 19th.
