To receive CTE Internship Course Credit, students must follow the guidelines established by NC DPI and the New Hanover County Schools CTE Department. Below you will find links to the Internship Application, the CTE Internship Handbook, and examples of the required forms that must be submitted throughout the internship process.
Please be sure to complete the application before beginning your internship. Once you are approved, you may move forward with your placement. Students are strongly encouraged to select an internship that aligns with their career pathway or field of study.
Your initiative is a vital part of this process. Begin researching opportunities early and network with family members, friends, and teachers to help identify placements that match your interests. Be sure to check the Internship Listings page regularly for new opportunities and updates.
Step 2 - Read the CTE Internship Handbook to familiarize yourself with the CTE Internship Requirements. Share Page 5 with your mentor/supervisor to be sure they understand their responsibility in this partnership. They will need to complete an evaluation that you will turn in as part of your requirements.
Step 3 - Begin journaling your experiences. There are 15 prompts in the handbook to help you organize your thoughts. Once you begin your internship, you will need to document your hours and have your mentor/supervisor sign off on your time. You will be required to turn these in periodically during your internship.
Step 4 - At the end of your internship, you will create a presentation to document your experiences. The requirements for this are discussed in the Internship Handbook. Depending on the time frame of your internship, you will present in early December or early May. You will draw from your journals, evaluations, and activities you have completed during your internship, so make sure to take photos and document well.
