About Mr. Taylor

Hello! My name is David Taylor. I am pleased to teach Physics at Hoggard High School. Here is a bit about me.

I grew up in Memphis, TN, where I attended grade school and high school. I always liked science and math, and in my senior year of high school, I took a physics class from an amazing teacher. I fell in love with the subject and knew I wanted to major in physics in college. Four years later, I graduated with a B.S. in Physics (with a minor in Math) from Mississippi State University. During the summer before my senior year of college, I worked as a physics reasearch assistant at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. While it was a great experience, I decided then that the life of a research physicist wasn't for me. I had always enjoyed teaching freshman physics lab classes and tutoring physics in college, so I decided to become a teacher. I went on to get a master's degree in education from the University of Memphis, where I taught high school physics for one year. I then moved to Birmingham, AL, following my college sweetheart Lisa, who was attending medical school there. I taught just about every science course at Erwin High School in Birmingham for several years. When my wife finished medical school and residency in 2000, we both got job offers here in Wilmington, NC and have been here ever since. I have been teaching physics exclusively at Hoggard High School for 23 years, and I feel very lucky to be here. My wife and I have two incredibly awesome daughters, Anna, who is 22, and Emily, who is 18. I am an avid reader, and I love anything associated with Star Wars and superheroes. My favorite TV show is MythBusters, formerly on the Discovery channel, and we will use stuff from that show in class!
