I wanted to spend some times outlining the games and activities we play in our Physical Education class to further help understanding and involve the parents in more of our daily outline and games.
All of the games we play at Murray focus on being inclusive, safe and allow every single student a chance to succeed and have fun while actively participating. We do not advocate or play games that involve targeting or the throwing of any ball at a person
Monday Fitness Activities.
Fitness Testing. (Sit N Reach, Mile Run, Fitnessgram Pacer Test, Push-ups/Sit-ups, and the Shuttle Run). These will be done twice in a school year excluding the Pacer and/or the mile which we do about once a month.
Inside/Outs- One group will be running on outside of the basketball court, while the other group walks on the volleyball court, switching every 30 seconds for 2 minutes, then both groups will find a spot on a line to do a designated activity (push-ups, jumping jacks, calf-raises)
Tabata- HIIT fitness. Students will do 4 different fitness exercises for 30 seconds and then take a 20 second break, completing four rounds of four exercises.
Deck of Cards- Exercises are designated to a certain suit of card and number, and then randomly chosen and completed. (EX: 9 nine of hearts might be 9 sit-ups)
Games
Indoor Kickball (formerly matball but it has been modified to remove any elements of targeting)- Two students will simultaneously kick two rhino balls and then run to first base. They will then attempt to run around the bases twice to get a run. Everyone person on a team must kick once before anyone kicks again. After 6 outs the teams will switch, with one coming to kick and one going to field. The teams with the most runs after the allotted time will be declared the victor.
Kicking Rules:
Balls must land on the 3rd and home base or in front of, but may not roll behind, or the kicker is out.
If one of the kickers ball hits the other kicker, the person who is hit by the ball is out.
If a kicker kicks their ball into the bleachers it is an automatic out.
If the kicker kicks the ball into the main basketball goal, it is a home run.
While running, you are allowed to run through 1st base, every other base you are not allowed to return or leave without trying to advance to the next base. If you do the defense can tag you at any point in time, unless you reach the next base safely.
After running the bases twice, you need to raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged by a teacher, then you will go get back in line to kick again.
Defense:
The only way to get someone out is to tag them with the ball. If the ball is caught in the air, the runner is still safe until you tag them before they can reach a base.
You are not allowed to throw the ball at someone on the opposing team. If you do so intentionaly you will have to sit out for a period of time.
You are allowed to throw the ball to people who are on your team with the purpose of tagging the runners
You are not allowed to block or protrude people from going to a base, in doing so the runners will be given an extra base.
You must stay behind the green line until a ball is kicked, failure to do so will result in an offsides call which will give every runner an extra base.
