This year in reading we will use the Wit & Wisdom program to study fiction with a focus on mythology and traditional literature, nonfiction, and poetry.  Each quarter will have a new theme, integrating science, social studies, and the arts into reading.  In 4th grade, we shift from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," using critical thinking skills to understand texts at a deeper level.  Students will make inferences to determine theme, author's purpose and message, and how text structure contributes to its meaning.
