According to the NAEP 2022 Report Card, only 33% of 4th grade students are reading at or above proficiency levels. While schools are making significant efforts to help students grow and reach proficiency, learning doesn’t stop at the school doors. It can and should also happen at home and in other environments outside of school. That's where CFELP comes in.
Research shows that students whose families are actively engaged in their learning are more likely to achieve higher grades, perform better on tests, develop greater self-confidence and motivation, and exhibit improved social skills and classroom behavior. Moreover, the earlier educators foster family engagement, the more effective it is in improving student performance.
By equipping families with the tools and knowledge they need to support their young learners, CFELP helps ensure children have the best chance to succeed in reading and beyond.
