At Ashley High School, we expect all students to present a unified, professional appearance on stage. Our designated concert dress code is Musician Black (All-Black Attire). This dress standard ensures visual consistency, focuses the audience on the performance rather than the performers’ clothing, and aligns with practices used by ensembles across the country.

Why All-Black?

• Creates a cohesive, elegant look for the ensemble.

• Minimizes visual distractions so the music remains the focus.

• Allows each student to choose comfortable attire within guidelines while maintaining a unified standard.
  
  

Guidelines for Students

Your performance outfit should meet the following criteria:

Tops & Dresses/Skirts

• All black: shirts, blouses, dresses, or tops with no additional colors, logos, or patterns.

• No sleeveless, strapless, halter, crop tops, or visible mid-riff. Sleeves should be short (cap), ¾ or full-length.

• Necklines should be modest and not distract from playing .
  
  

Bottoms

• Solid black dress pants or slacks, or long solid black skirts/dresses at the knee or longer.

• No jeans, leggings, yoga pants, sweatpants, shorts, or any variant of casual/stretch athletic wear.
  
  

Footwear & Accessories

• Black dress shoes or flats; no athletic shoes, sneakers, flip-flops or overly casual footwear.

• Socks or tights must be black; bare legs or colored hosiery are inappropriate.

• Keep jewelry, makeup, hair and accessories minimal and non-reflective (nothing shiny or distracting under stage lights).
  
  

Additional Notes & Expectations

• Make sure your clothing allows you full range of motion—especially critical for musicians who sit, stand, move, or use their arms extensively.

• Maintain good grooming and presentation—clean shoes, pressed pants/skirts, minimal wrinkles, and professional overall appearance.
