"Education is not the preparation of life. Education is life itself!"--John Dewey

My name is Dorian Barnes and I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year. I grew up near Goldsboro, NC and moved to Wilmington in 2001 to attend college and never left. My husband Jason and I have two beautiful boys named Hayden (5) and Weston (3) . We also have a fur-baby named "Penny" who is 15 years old and so spoiled!

I graduated from UNCW with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Literacy Education. I am a Nationally Board Certified Teacher. I also have my NHCS AIG Credentials. I am currently working on my administration certification. I am a member of the UNCW PDS Advisory Board where I help make valuable decision on the future of education for Watson College Students and School Partners. I have taught kindergarten, 1st grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and instructed at UNCW. On top of being a dedicated teacher in my 15th year, I serve as Director of Membership for Alpha Delta Pi sorority. My passions include Project Based Learning, Inquiry Based Learning, ELA Cooperative Learning Centers, teaching and mentoring people of all ages. I look forward to growing and learning with your child this year!
