History is defined as "the written record of the past." As writing did not develop until around 3000 BCE, in Mesopotamia, there is a great deal of human progress and past that we must use other fields of study to learn about. Using archaeology, forensic and cultural anthropology, geology, biology, and paleontology, we have been able to determine what life was like in the age before written records. Prehistory is exactly was it sounds like: before history, before the written record. Using remains of people, settlements, and artifacts, we have come to understand a great deal about the remarkable journey of humankind.
