Social Studies is not one singular field of study, but rather a combination of History, Archaeology, Sociology, Anthropology, and Geography designed to help grade school aged students form an understanding of the complex world around them. In learning about the past, students are able to be introduced to old concepts that may help them earn a new understanding of social structures and their place within their own society.
6th grade Social Studies are based in and around Ancient Cultures. Students begin their journey through the past with what is called "Prehistory", i.e. the Paleolithic and Neolithic ages. Throughout the course of the year students will meander through time, hopping from place to place in the world, exploring some of the earliest civilizations and cultures.
