Each student is assigned one specific location from which they receive transportation services. All requests for a change in bus service, regardless whether temporary or permanent, must go through the school office—not the bus driver or transportation department.
To request a change in bus service for one or two days, provide the school with the address of the alternate bus stop—not the name of the person residing at that location. The driver cannot provide service to a location that is not on an existing route; however, the student can be transported to the nearest existing stop where an authorized adult can meet the bus. The school will issue a bus pass for the student to present to the driver. No student can ride the bus to an alternate destination without having a bus pass.
When making a long-term or permanent change in bus service such as when moving to a new address or arranging service to or from a babysitter, please give the school office the new address as well as the address from which your child has been receiving transportation. The former address is required so that your child’s name can be removed from that bus stop. Bus service to the new address cannot begin until the transportation department has had time to process the request—this could take one to two days if the address is on an existing route. If the new address is not on a road traveled on an existing route, it will take three to five days for bus service to begin. While waiting for service to begin, parents can continue to receive bus service from their former address.
In the morning, if your child is the only student at bus stop in a rural location and does not need bus service on a specific day, parents are asked to notify the transportation department (509-234-3771) so the bus driver can be informed. If several days pass and no students ride from a particular stop, we will look at removing the stop until we are notified that bus service is to resume.
