Cheerleaders are mentioned in the 1937 yearbook. What appears to be two females and one male.
Senior Isadora Fink and his biographic accomplishments form 1937 yearbook.
During the Great Depression yearbooks were often not printed. The only yearbook we currently have access to following that event was from the 1936-1937 school year. During the 1936-1937 school year there is a a photo and a side note photo with one male and two females labeled "cheerleaders". On the sophomore page it is noted that "Tad Davis, that small but mighty cheerleader comes from our class". On the freshmen page it reads "The charming cheerleader, Helen Le Masters, is a member of our class". In the senior section of that yearbook one of the senior students "Isadora Fink" has Cheerleader listed for all four years of high school in his biographic accomplishments. This would suggest that there was at least one cheerleader during 1934, 1935, and 1936. Evidence in later yearbooks indicates that at least one more male would have participated in cheerleading with Isadora during 1936 which appears to be Tad Davis.
It was common at this time for cheerleaders to be male students who lead the student body in cheers at football games.
