What We Are Doing

1st grade is Semester 1

11/4-11/20 Students work on Paper Snow Globes a project that involves a fair amount of cutting and learning how to do an accordion fold. This project is great practice for fine motor skills.

10/18-11/1 Students are painting their fish bowls using a wax resist technique. They are drawing the form, highlights, and goldfish, in oil pastel and then paint with watercolor.

10/9-10/17 Students are done background and working on Middleground, table and leaves. They have a print out that they are adding paint over and then cutting out.

10/1-10/8 Review of old elements and intro to new elements are done. We are starting our new project modeled after Matisse's Gold Fish Painting. The first two days students are using rubbing plates and crayons to create a background full of color and texture just like Matisse's artwork.

9/23

Students have completed their review of the elements from Kindergarten, color, line, and shape. We are practicing making our color wheel in order. Next we are getting an intro into our new elements of art value, form, space and texture. All of our projects this year will focus on these elements.
