We are excited to announce our first whole community event of the 2020-21 Academic Year! This project is very close to our heart, it embraces Singapore’s iconic merlion - a celebration of our home in the little red dot. Through art, we aim to unite, build friendships and raise money for those less fortunate than us.
Here are the events happening in Secondary & how we can ALL contribute (more details regarding activities for our Primary learners can be found in the Primary newsletter):
Year 7 to 9
Friday 11 Sept - Dress up as a Merlion or your own Singapore Story for $3
Paint your own merlion for $25 or mindful colouring for your own donation. Children will design and paint their own 20cm merlion or colour in a Singapore landscape scene. Learners may take their artwork home, the merlions make wonderful gifts.
Purchase details will be in the following email.
Years 10 - 13
Friday 11 Sept - Dress up as a Merlion or your own Singapore Story for $3
From 21 Sept - A Co-Curricular Group will embark on a truly amazing task of painting their own iconic 1.6m merlion that will be a permanent sight here at Nexus. Under the tutorship of lead artist and founder of the Lion’s Pride, Diana Francis, they will create their own story, design and paint their sculpture.
Parents
From 14 Sept - Merlion Parties
We would love you to get involved and host your own ‘Merlion Party’. We hope this will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with parents through your WhatsApp groups and get to know each other whilst painting your own 20cm merlion or mindful colouring for your own donation.
To purchase your 20cm merlion we will host a pop-up store which will run 14 - 18 September.
16 Nov - Art Exhibition (restrictions permitting)
A beautiful exhibition of your children's work and the unveiling of our giant merlion. If you are an artist and would like to exhibit, please email marketing@nexus.edu.sg.
This event is in partnership with Lion's Pride and Crayola. All funds raised will go to the President’s Challenge.
The President’s Challenge represents the coming together of people from all walks of life to help the less fortunate. In 2012, it was expanded to go beyond fundraising by including volunteerism and social entrepreneurship. Partnerships with registered charities within the President’s Challenge help our learners foster relationships with these organisations and build their caring and enterprising spirit.
Click here to learn more about the President’s Challenge.
We truly hope you will embrace this activity, connect through art and raise money to those who need our help.
We are delighted to announce that we are now ready to invite the parents and guardians of our Year 11, 12 and 13 learners to join the Cialfo platform. Cialfo is a powerful resource that our senior learners use for their university research and application processes. Most recently, our learners have been using Cialfo to register with ‘Lion City Online’, an exciting (virtual) university fair.
Inviting parents and guardians to join the platform comes at a perfect time as it now means that you too can book your own university sessions and panel discussions throughout the duration of the fair (12th September - 2nd October).
Each learner in Year 11, 12 and 13 can now add their parent/ guardian details to the ‘Contacts’ tab on their Cialfo dashboard before saving the information and sending the registration email. You may need to check your spam/ junk mail folder to find the link! Your Cialfo account will be directly linked to your child’s account which means that you can stay up to date with their university tasks, college lists and career searches.
During ‘Lion City Online’ you will be able to learn about over 190 institutions and programmes on offer, as well as several educational keynotes on essay writing, financial aid, and many more! Some of the universities joining the fair include Loughborough University, ESSEC Business School, University of Cambridge, University of Notre Dame, Yale-NUS, Trinity College Dublin... to name but a few! While the fair is very exciting, we recommend that you watch this short video to learn more about what Cialfo has to offer you as parents and guardians beyond ‘Lion City Online’.
We believe that this platform offers us another exciting opportunity to grow and learn together as a community.
Best wishes,
Aine Gibbons

We have set up WhatsApp Groups for 2020/21. Every class in our Primary School has a WhatsApp group and in Secondary School there is a WhatsApp Group for Years 7 to10. We are a school that prides itself on our strong community relationships and these WhatsApp Groups will allow you to build friendships between families in each class.
What these WhatsApp Groups are:
A place for families to come together to arrange social activities (eg: parties, play dates, coffee mornings and evening drinks)
A place for occasional reminders (eg: remembering Dress Up Days!)
What these WhatsApp Groups aren't:
A school communication channel (we will continue to share all school infromation via the fortnightly Newsletters, school emails and our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pg/nexusinternationalschoolsingapore) - please do make sure you read these to find out all that is going on in school
A place for discusssing individual learners
A place to raise issues (we welcome all feedback and encourage you to contact us directly with any concerns you have so that we can help to resolve them)
We are delighted that a large group of parents have agreed to help our Learner Services team to administer these WhatsApp Groups. The Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) does not allow us to share your personal information with them so we are not able to automatically add you to the appropriate WhatsApp Group. Instead, you can either messgae these parents so that they can add you to the group or click on the WhatsApp link. These details are shared under a separate email.
If you would like to join this informal class group, simply send a text to one of your child's class WhatsApp administrators with the following information:
Your name (first name and family name)
Your child's name (first name and family name)
Your mobile phone number
If you have children in different classes please text the administrator of each class.
Once again, thank to all the parents for supporting our school community. We are sure that you will find this informal social network very valuable throughout the year ahead at Nexus.
