Our Online Music Recitals were a huge hit in June, to celebrate the end of online instrumental lessons and provide a performance opportunity not just for our young musicians but also for their friends and families. Our previous recital sat the Nexus Ulu Pandan Campus provided a lovely platform which supported learning and enabled a positive playing experience. Through the online recitals we were able to capture a similar formality to the live concert and support your child to enhance their learning through playing.
With Covid restrictions regarding crowds and performance we are going to offer this opportunity again and will be aiming for the Online Instrumental Recital to be launched at the end of Term 1.
If your child is interested to participate they will need to initially approach their instrumental tutor to seek advise on what piece of music to prepare. With their support over the next month they will need to be practising in preparation for a polished performance of their selected piece of music. Teachers are able to provide backing tracks for anyone who requires an accompaniment which often enhances a performance.
To make this possible we are asking that you assist your child to make their final recording. This is usually best if they are able to have a few family members present during the performance to make it feel more 'real'. Here are some tips to make the recording as effective as possible and a link here to some examples to help.
1. Please ensure children wear smart school uniform. Including shoes.
2. Use a device which you feel has the best recording facilities. An iphone or DSLR camera for example. (Tip - to make sure audio can be heard in the video: Take a quick 10-15 sec clip of yourself rehearsing and hear how it sounds from where the camera/phone is placed)
3. Ensure the camera angle is flattering for the learner. E.g. Singers are facing the camera to communicate with their audience, pianists hands and the keyboard can be seen.
4. Check your performance space. Are you happy with sharing this area of your home with our Nexus community?
5. Do not to have any light source in the shot (eg: window, lamp) ... as it makes the person look silhouetted.
6. Recording to be taken landscape (horizontal), not portrait.
7. Make sure learners' faces can be seen at least and their hair isn't blocking their eyes.
For the recording please include the following:
a) Your child must introduce themselves (1st name only) and say the title of their piece.
b) Perform and record
c) Stand after the performance, smile whilst facing the camera and bow looking to the floor.
Our marketing department will compile all videos and produce the final concert format. Please share/email the final recording to me via music@nexus.edu.sg
If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact me further.

Further information regarding Music Ensembles will be available as part of the CCA Season booklet to be distributed next week. We ask for your understanding that the Arts, particularly music have been heavily hit with restrictions due to Covid. Large numbers, no singing and mixing of children are amongst just some of the restrictions we are dealing with daily. We have however aimed to offer a range of activities and have decided to align with Season 1 CCA's rather than stretch over the semester in the hope that by Christmas there will be less restrictions in place. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.
