The Year 13 Graduation was an excellent event last Friday. Held at The British Club, Year 13 learners and their families came together for a really warm celebration of their time at Nexus which included some wonderful performances and speeches. It was great to be reminded of the outstanding contributions made by these learners to our community. We wish our graduates every success as they go forward to their chosen universities after they receive their IB Diploma results in early July.

The Year 10 Humanities trip to Vietnam was full of fantastic learning opportunities and learners have enjoyed reflecting on their experiences during the last two weeks. Similarly many Year 12 learners had a fantastic time in Loola where they were gathering research data for Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies Internal Assessments. Another group of Year 12 Business Studies learners visited the Singapore Yakult Factory on Monday of this week and were astonished at the speed of the production lines. Please see a report on all three trips here.
Yesterday's Climbathon in aid of the Chora Chori charity in Nepal was a great success. Years 7 and 8 gave lots of support to learners in the lower Primary School and it was a truly wonderful community event, a full report is here.
The Climbathon showcased two really important elements of the Nexus Way: Relationships and Mindsets. The learners were excellent at coming together and working hard for people that they will probably never meet, all with a common attitude towards the concept of giving freely to help others.
Our Year 10 learners have a very strong bond with one of their own peers, Joseph, who is currently undergoing Chemotherapy. Some of Joseph's friends have come together to rally behind him by organising a large scale Hair For Hope event on our very own campus, the idea being that people are sponsored to have their heads shaved. The boys have made strong presentations in assemblies and there is a real buzz in the community. Please see our Upcoming Events page for notice of how to get involved in this excellent cause (either by being shaved or by donating).
Last Wednesday Nexus hosted our first-ever potluck Iftar (breaking fast). It was a lovely informal occasion to share with our Muslim community. Thanks to our wonderful staff and parents who organised this event. Please remember that the school is closed next Wednesday (5th June) to observe Hari Raya Puasa.
The last two weeks of term remain at the usual Nexus pace. Please see the calendar below or the date list on the upcoming events page.
Have a good weekend,
Peter Hart, Head of Secondary School
