From our Head of Secondary

Dear Parents

First of all, I would like to thank you for your feedback. We recognise that if you are a new Secondary parent there are many things to get your head around. Not being able to run our usual Welcome Evening also means we have lost some opportunities to help you understand the systems we use at Nexus. With your feedback in mind, we are providing some things to help. Our Head of Year 7, Ms Sarah Baldock, has created a fantastic one page visual that we hope will help you. We have included it in here. Sarah and I would like to invite Y7 parents to join us for an informal online drop-in session on Monday 21st September between 2pm and 3pm. Please sign up on the Google Form so we can send you the link to join us. Please use this form to request topics you would like us to cover or to post questions. Please complete the Google Form before 12pm on Monday 21st. Our online Parent Teacher Conference for Year 7s will be happening on Wednesday 30th September where you can meet your child's teachers. There will a further opportunity for us to connect on Tuesday 6th October during an online Q&A session between 8.45am - 9.45am. Please use this link to sign up. I look forward to meeting some of you through these events. In the meantime, I do hope you are enjoying the Meet the Team videos we are making so you can connect with our staff. If you have missed a newsletter, previous editions can be found in the Parent Zone on the Nexus website.

It has been fantastic to see our Y13 learners from Team Revival mentoring and supporting this year's Y12 contestants competing in the Junior Achievement award. Carlota, Jackson, Tina and Dhruv were crowned Singapore Company of the Year six months ago. They then went on to beat 16 other National Champions to become 'Asia Pacific Junior Achievement Company of the Year 2020. They have shown that Nexus learners have continued to grow and learn even though we have had circuit breaker and disruptions to normal life. Check out their video below.

Nexus is all about empowering learners. This week, I have invited learners from Years 7 to 13 to apply for Lead Learner roles. There are opportunities for learners to lead in Sports, Service, Curriculum, Wellbeing and Learner Voice. These learners will be able to help influence school through collaborating with staff to help create the rich and diverse curriculum and co-curriculum experiences that make Nexus special. Please encourage your child to seek out these opportunities as they will provide a valuable sense of belonging and efficacy.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Heather
