Dear Parents and Guardians
I hope you have had a good week.
I am delighted to share with you that Nexus learners continue to make us all proud. Nexus Team ScrapCap has just been crowned Junior Achievement Asia Pacific Company of the Year. The team set up a business from scratch, turning a problem into a solution. They showed they could problem-solve, collaborate, communicate, analyse and synthesise information, deliver a business plan and create a product where demand exceeded production.
This is a significant achievement for all the learners involved and we acknowledge that the initial team of 14 was not all able to join the four representatives at this stage due to competition rules. Nonetheless, they all played a significant part in taking an idea and making it happen with the four representatives being excellent ambassadors for the wider team.
None of this could happen if these learners had self-limiting beliefs that they either imposed on themselves or were transferred from those around them. Learning and judgement from, and experiences with, family, friends, school, society, media, all contribute to self-limiting beliefs. Self-limiting beliefs can be career-limiting and comments like "Billy is no good at Maths" can lead to bigger issues like the avoidance of any situation where Maths is involved.
It is so important that we help learners reframe any negative thoughts that may reaffirm self-limiting beliefs. Mr Jim and the mentors Joe and Mike have done just that, supporting these learners throughout their journey, challenging them and questioning them. Encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones and dismiss any notions of "I cannot do that " or "I am no good at that".
Success is so often linked to self-belief and confidence. Please continue to work with us to build your child's confidence and help them to see what they are capable of.
Please do look through the tabs located at the top of the newsletter so you can find out more about recent events and what is happening.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Best wishes
