Rehearsals for our first school production in our new campus have kicked off this week. The directors and the cast are all super excited to be working on this performance for our community, it has been so long since we have been able to show off the talent of our learners and we are all thrilled to be back on the boards again! If you are part of the Mary Poppins cast, please keep checking for announcements for updated rehearsal times and make sure you come to rehearsals on time. If you would like to be involved with set or anything else backstage just hold on for now, we will be organising a team of backstage crew and set/props/costume designers in January. If you are a parent or guardian and you are willing to help or have any contacts that might be useful, then please drop me an email, we would love to hear from you.

The drama department are thrilled to announce that one-on-one LAMDA lessons are now available for learners to sign up for. London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected drama schools and a Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) accredited organisation.
LAMDA focuses on developing learners into confident communicators through examinations in drama, literature and poetry. They offer exceptional vocational training, enabling learners to excel in self expression while having fun in a safe environment.
More than 100,000 people all over the world take LAMDA exams every year and we are thrilled that Nexus has become one of only 4 LAMDA exam centres in Singapore.
Nexus is now offering LAMDA lessons in two ways, as a group CCA with the possibility of continuing to take an exam, and as one-on-one lessons for those who wish to hone their performance skills further.
LAMDA offer a variety of exams in the following disciplines:
▶ Acting (Monologues/Duologues)
▶ Speaking in Public
▶ Reading for Performance
▶ Musical Theatre (solo/duo)
▶ Speaking Verse and Prose

It has been great to see our instrumental tutors and NEXUS musicians back in the music department this week for their face to face lessons. It has been a taxing time with reverting to online lessons and back again, however, I thank you for your patience, flexibility and on-going support. Many of our tutors are self employed/freelance musicians and teachers and I know they appreciate you and your children; they are simply happy to be back, doing what they do best!
We will continue to address social distancing and safe distancing measures during our lessons with regular cleaning; our tutors also continue to carry out weekly testing.
If you placed your lessons on hold and wish to restart, please contact the tutor directly. However, if you are interested in lessons and wish to find out more, you can access all information regarding timetabling, cost and tutors through the Parent Zone.
If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact the music department: music@nexus.edu.sg
Our recitals provide a lovely platform which supports learning and enables a positive playing experience. We are hoping to capture a similar formality in the concert and support your child to enhance their learning through playing. Our Recitals are always greatly received by our Nexus families and wider community around the world.
If your child has been rehearsing with their instrumental tutor this term and would like to get involved please see the details below; whether they have lessons inside or outside of school we encourage everyone to participate!
Learners in school
To make this possible, we are asking our instrumental tutor to assist your child to make their final recording by Monday, 6 December. Tutors can provide accompaniments or backing tracks as these enhance the final performances.
Learners with lessons outside of school
Please support your child to complete this and submit to music@nexus.edu.sg by Monday, 6 December. Here are some guidelines for the best video shoot.
1. Ensure your child is wearing their school uniform, including shoes.
2. Use a device which you feel has the best recording facilities e.g. an iPhone or DSLR camera.
3. Ensure the camera angle is flattering for the learner e.g. singers are facing the camera to communicate with their audience, pianists hands and the keyboard can be seen.
4. Filming is done in landscape format.
5. Check your performance space. Are you happy with sharing this area of your home with our Nexus community?
6. For the recording, please include the following:
a) Your child must introduce themselves (1st name only) and say the title of their piece
b) Perform and record
c) Stand after the performance, smile whilst facing the camera and bow looking to the floor
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the music department: music@nexus.edu.sg.

Everyone loves a Christmas Singalong and in true Nexus community spirit once again, we will be bringing you some wonderful Christmas Carols led by our amazing NEXUS musicians. As we are all now used to doing things a little differently and with our music ensembles cancelled recently due to COVID this year, our Carols will be led by our music classes. This is an exciting opportunity that will involve all learners at NEXUS from Nursery up to Y13! Everyone will have the chance to perform and be on our wonderful NEXUS Auditorium stage.
This is a mammoth task to collaborate our whole school. However, behind the scenes, NEXUS music teachers are busy writing music, rehearsing, creating backing tracks and pulling this altogether in our regular music lessons. You may have already heard what the plan is for your own child as they are buzzing and our department is filled with Christmas cheer already!
To make this possible, we will be inviting each class to record their performance in the auditorium week beginning 22 November and will collaborate this into a great NEXUS singalong family video which we hope you will come together at home and enjoy. During this week, we ask that learners follow the school rules regarding uniform so that everyone is neat and tidy for the video. If you have PE, wear your PE kit and if you have no PE, wear your full school uniform!
The schedule for recording is as follows:
We will keep you posted with more information nearer to the event. In the meantime, do keep up to date with what's going on in the next newsletter!
