Nexus SwimFest 2023
On Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th of May, all primary and secondary learners will be taking part in our first Nexus SwimFest 2023.
This will be held at the Nexus swimming pool. All learners have further developed their swim skills throughout the academic year in their aquatic-based lessons. This event will give our learners an opportunity to showcase their skills. The focus of this event will be on participation in a fun and encouraging environment.
Please feel free to come along at the times mentioned on a poster to support your child/ward and join in the house spirit.
Please also ensure your child/ward brings the following items to school on the day of the Swim Gala:
· Suitable swimsuit, swim cap, googles
· Sun Block
· An extra healthy snack
· Water bottle
Learners can show their house spirit by wearing wigs and t-shirts in their house colour.
Do you play an instrument or sing? Then we have the competition for you! We are looking for the first ever "NEXUS Young Musician of the Year". Whether you are just a beginner, have taken exams, have lessons, sing in the shower, play a unique instrument from another country or have taught yourself we invite you to get involved.
It's really easy all you need to do is:
Round 1 - Video Performance
Select your instrument
Choose a song and find the music
Practise (ask for help from your music teacher or the NEXUS music team!)
Complete this google form with your information and a video recording of you playing
Round 2 - Live Performance
Those musicians successful will be invited to perform in a live concert on Thursday 8th June at 4pm.
Our Music Recital series is back on Thursday 18th May we invite any musician who learns an instrument inside or outside of school to perform in our NEXUS Auditorium. It is always a lovely and intimate event which supports our young musicians in the invaluable experience of performing in front of others. As well as supporting confidence and stage presence through the performance it also provides musicians with a goal of which aids practise and gives them a drive as something to work towards.
We encourage musicians at any age or ability to contact us at music@nexus.edu.sg and get involved!
We love it when our musicians come to us asking if they can arrange a concert/gig. It is everything that encompasses the IB learner profile as well as the NEXUS Recipe. From demonstrating thinking, communicating and taking risks through to being passionate in all we do and creating a culture of excellence.
Our Y10's Danyil, Leonor, Tomas, Aldo and Alex will be taking to the stage on Tuesday 16 May at 3.50pm in the NEXUS Auditorium. They will perform an eclectic mix of song from some classic oldies through to popular and rock culture. Parents, learners and staff are welcome to bob in and out during the performance and join in the fun.

Understanding MYP Mathematics
MYP Mathematics, like all subjects, has 4 assessment criteria. They can seem confusing and difficult to understand at first, for learners and parents alike.
The criteria and assessment tasks are most probably very different to the tests we all endured at school!
This workshop will take parents through the four assessment criteria to help develop a better understanding of each, so that we may all support our learners more.
There will be tasks to try and some to grade. We will also look at self-assessment and peer-assessment.

Parent Volunteer Workshop
Our school relies heavily on the support and involvement of our parent community and we are grateful for the dedication and commitment that many of you have shown to our school thus far. This workshop is part of our parent volunteer program that aims to foster stronger relationships between the school and parents.
In this workshop, our Principal, Lachlan, will provide you with the necessary tools and information to be a safeguarding-informed volunteer at Nexus. We will be discussing various topics such as school policies and procedures, safety guidelines and effective communication with teachers and staff. Moving forward, only parents who have completed this course will be allowed to volunteer in the school.
Additionally, this will be a great opportunity to meet other parents who are also interested in volunteering and share ideas and experiences with one another. We hope that you will find this workshop informative, engaging and helpful as you make meaningful contributions to our school community.
We look forward to seeing you at the workshop!
