Our annual House Singing Competition took place this week with all of Year 7 taking to the stage in the Auditorium. As part of our unit Sing Up the learners have been celebrating singing. For many this has taken them out of their comfort zone, taking risks and building confidence to perform in front of others. In class they have been working on creating a good vocal tone, reading musical vocal scores, singing partner songs and learning to sing in harmony. Songs such as 'Stand by Me', 'Never wanna give you up' and various funny warm ups have kept us entertained in class before we began working towards our 'Disney' themes songs for the competition.
Each class selected and prepared a song with their music teacher based on the 'Disney' theme. The event was judged by special guests Ms Sarah, Ms Stephanie, Mr Michael and Ms Kimberley all bringing their music expertise and knowledge of our Year 7 learners to the table.
All classes performed with energy and enthusiasm the afternoon was a huge success and it was wonderful to see parents and other classes/teachers come down to watch and join in the fun. Although classes are mixed houses everyone participating gained some valuable house points, those that sang solo's got some extra bonus points and 3rd, 2nd and 1st places gained even more house points!
A lovely afternoon was topped off not only by celebrating 7R who won this years competition with their spectacular rendition of 'Little Mermaids, Under the Sea' but with the whole of Year 7 coming together in song and performing as a year group.
Thank you to everyone involved and a huge congratulations to 7R who also receive a pizza party to celebrate their success!!!
Our Music Recital series is back on Thursday 18th May we invite any musician who learns an instrument inside or outside of school to perform in our NEXUS Auditorium. It is always a lovely and intimate event which supports our young musicians in the invaluable experience of performing in front of others. As well as supporting confidence and stage presence through the performance it also provides musicians with a goal of which aids practise and gives them a drive as something to work towards.
We encourage musicians at any age or ability to contact us at music@nexus.edu.sg and get involved!
Do you play an instrument or sing? Then we have the competition for you! We are looking for the first ever "NEXUS Young Musician of the Year". Whether you are just a beginner, have taken exams, have lessons, sing in the shower, play a unique instrument from another country or have taught yourself we invite you to get involved.
It's really easy all you need to do is:
Round 1 - Video Performance

Complete this google form with your information and a video recording of you playing
Round 2 - Live Performance
Those musicians successful will be invited to perform in a live concert on Thursday 8th June at 4pm.
We love it when our musicians come to us asking if they can arrange a concert/gig. It is everything that encompasses the IB learner profile as well as the NEXUS Recipe. From demonstrating thinking, communicating and taking risks through to being passionate in all we do and creating a culture of excellence.
Our Y10's Danyil, Leonor, Tomas, Aldo and Alex will be taking to the stage on Tuesday 16 May at 3.50pm in the NEXUS Auditorium. The Fairy King and Queen are at war, four young lovers have eloped to the forest, and a group of tradesmen are rehearsing a play. But it is Midsummer Night and Puck, as chief mischief-maker, is pulling pranks to ensure that the course of true love is anything but smooth.
