Year 7, 8 and 9 started off 2022 putting themselves through their paces completing the 10 Fitness Tests for the second time this academic year. It was fantastic to see so many learners make excellent progress and improve their scores, well done! A special mention goes to cardiovascular endurance superstar, Charlie Moriarty (7R), who achieved 13.3 on the beep test, a superb effort. All of the learners have set themselves goals to challenge themselves. These can be viewed on their Health and Fitness document on Canvas - perhaps some parents might like to join in too?!
The Year 7 learners are now enjoying their next units (January 24th to March 4th) such as; Athletics, Striking and Fielding Games (eg. Rounders and Cricket) and Net Games (eg. Volleyball and Badminton). While the Year 8’s are getting stuck into Net Games (eg. Volleyball, Spikeball and Table Tennis), Water Games (eg. Water Polo and Underwater Hockey) and Field and Court Invasion Games (eg. Touch Rugby and Basketball). The Year 9’s are busy with Life Saving, Field and Court Invasion Games (eg. Hockey, Netball and Touch Rugby) and Striking and Fielding Games (eg. Softball and Cricket).
Since August 2021, the Year 10 and 11’s have been participating in 1 hour of Physical Education a week. This is a much needed break from their screens and studies, and a chance to communicate and collaborate with their peers in a practical setting. For the next 5 weeks, the learners are taking part in Meditation and Mindfulness, Striking and Fielding Games, Net Games, Fitness, Court and Field Invasion Games, and Pool Games.
A reminder that to ensure everyone can participate to the best of their abilities, all learners must attend their PHE classes wearing the Nexus PE t-shirt and PE shorts along with a suitable pair of running trainers (skate/flat bottomed shoes are not acceptable due to the lack of support and grip). For safety reasons, all learners must remove their jewellery and tie long hair back.
