Dear parents and guardians
I hope you were able to enjoy some time as a family during the lunar new year.
It has been wonderful to see our Chinese department lead the way with the cultural festivities and to have our learner led initiative Joy Box making and selling their bracelets. One of the privileges of my job is being able to support learners to take action and make a difference. It is great to see the impact of learning through the curriculum influencing our learners and stimulating an interest or desire to make a change. Joy Box are looking at supporting migrant workers and the Pad Drive is looking to address inequality in access to menstrual products. Thank you for your support with these and the clothes recycling drive we are running.
We can never underestimate the learning that goes alongside organising and carrying out an initiative. Learners who put themselves forward to lead, learn about their strengths and areas to develop as well as learning to delegate and collaborate and when to seek help. At Nexus we are fortunate that we are never short of learners with ideas who are willing to put themselves forward. Our Year 12 learners in Read Cycle have continued to do Nexus proud coming second in the Singapore Junior Achievement Company of the Year. Other learners are leading in other ways playing pivotal roles on stage and back stage as they rehearse in readiness for Mary Poppins.
Please do scroll through the tabs at the top to find out more about what our learners are doing and the important events like our learning conferences that are coming up.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend
Best wishes

新年快乐 如虎添翼
The Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival of 2022 falls on 1 Feb and is undoubtedly the most important event in the Chinese community worldwide. Our learners from Primary and Secondary schools soaked up the festive mood throughout with celebrations in the form of lively activities in the Library and enjoyed loud and colourful lion and dragon dances. Learners enjoyed CNY from all perspectives to embrace cultural diversity. They experienceed Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, handkerchief spinning, fan dancing, face painting, picking up marbles with chopsticks. Our Y12 and Y13 IB learners also ran a fundraising event to support migrant workers.
